Background and objectives

The Kissmeyer Icons series is meant as a retrospective salute to those beers previously launched under the Kissmeyer Beer brand that are the most iconic. The beers in the series, all originally launched between 2010 and 2016, represent a broad variety of beer styles with the common denominator that they all exhibit a highly personal and unique ‘twist’ on the base styles. The twists are different from beer to beer, but the overall characteristic is that the Icon beers are smooth, accessible and harmonious. Simply because that is how I like my beer! The ‘Kissmeyer Into the Black’ is built upon the original ‘Kissmeyer Black IPA’ – a personal interpretation of this popular ’crossover style’, by holding back on the black malts and by using only de-husked versions of them, in order to create a less aggressive and burnt malt counter-balance to the hoppyness and bitterness of the IPA. The name? Thanks to Neill Young and Poul Mikkelsen – both ‘dinosaurs’ in the cool way!

Black colour, rich, lasting pale cream-coloured head.

Intensely hoppy, with soft roasted malt notes .

Fruity and floral hop flavour, mildly roasted and markedly, but smoothly bitter taste. A long bitter, hoppy and roasty aftertaste.

Mouth feel

Full body, but dry for style.

food matching

Rich beef stews, all meat based BBQs, game, burgers and hard, strong cheeses.

The ’Kissmeyer Into the Black’ is a black IPA with more focus on ‘IPA’ than
‘Black’. Lots of hop character, a distinct, but smooth bitterness and mild roast
malt character.
